“WITHOUT THE DATA WE HAD A MISCONCEPTION OF WHEN SEXUAL VIOLENCE HAPPENS (…) DATA POINTS YOU TOWARDS THE RIGHT DIRECTION FOR THE SOLUTION”
ElsaMarie D’Silva, 2020 Gratitude Fellow,
Founder and CEO of Red Dot Foundation (Safecity)
On Tuesday April 18, 2023, we held a powerful Gratitude Forum with 2020 Fellow ElsaMarie D’Silva Founder & CEO of Red Dot Foundation
The Red Dot Foundation‘s mission is to end violence against women and girls using crowdsourced data, community engagement and institutional accountability. Their award winning platform Safecity empowers individuals, communities, police and city government to create safer public and private spaces.
So many rich topics were covered in this conversation such as the origin story of the Safecity app idea in 2012, with the realization that no one reports sexual violence and the existence of a huge data gap between the reality and what was reported to authorities. We also talked about the work they are doing educating men and boys to hear about the pain caused by these violence, with examples of young men shifting from being a perpetrator to being an advocate….
For those of you who couldn’t attend, you can view a recording of the session below, including lots of great questions from our attendees:
